For many sex trafficking victims, hope is hard to come by. They may hope for freedom, but the traffickers abuse and shame them into feeling worthless. As a result, survivors of sex trafficking often suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and addiction. However, hope gives them the strength to face their mental health challenges and rebuild a life they would have never dreamed possible.
“We hope for a future without slavery of any kind,” said a recent graduate of their long-term program. “With the help we’ve received from the Hope House, we are transforming into women who can build families instead of destroying them.”
And help is always available at the Hope House, which provides shelter for victims who’ve escaped from their abusers. Founded in 2007 by Lee and Laura Domingue in Baton Rouge, the Trafficking Hope organization now has shelters in 22 states. Their goal is to eliminate trafficking in the U.S. through empowerment and education while offering various survivor services for the rescued victims.Â
